Easton-on-the-Hill (AN Wyles)
All Saints Church – Graveyard

Picture
We have been staying on the outskirts of Easton for a week – researching in and around Duddington for more information on the “Wyles” family who originate from that village. There are plenty of Wyles people still living in King’s Cliffe (a branch of the Duddington Wyles family) – but we have yet to find any other places with a “Wyles” buried there. Today, whilst collecting War Memorial data in Easton – we were lucky enough to find a manual in the Church that contains the details of ALL the graves surrounding the Church. Low and behold, we discovered a “Wyles” person buried (together with his wife) in the graveyard! We have not heard of this person before – but he must be related to us in some manner. Alfred Norman Wyles died in 1962 aged just 41-years old. His wife – Iris Primrose – died in 2018 aged 94-years old, living 56-years longer than her husband!

Alfred Norman Wyles Died 1962 Aged 41 (born [in Stamford] 1921) – relationship to us – unknown

Iris Primrose Died 2018 Aged 94 (born 1924) – Outlived Her Husband By 56-Years!

It is interesting to me that my Grandfather – Alfred Gregory Wyles (1916-1976) – shared the same first-name as this particular Wyles! This makes a change as many Wyles men are often named “John Thomas”, “Robert”, “James” and “Thomas”, etc.

Note: Whilst corelating data pertaining to the Easton-on-the-Hill War Memorials (to be included on this site) we discovered that "Alfred Norman Wyles" (misspelt as "AN Wiles" on the Roll of Honour located in the Church) is recorded as "marrying-in" to village - and serving in the Royal Air Force during WWII. He survived the war - but unfortunately passed away relatively young in 1962! Here we see another genealogical problem regarding the "Wyles" surname being misspelt "Wiles"
