All Saints & St James Church

Church Heritage Record:
  
Grave Number 172 - 1) Ann Rowle Wyles, 2) John Wyles and 3) Susannah Wyles. 

Sacred to the memory of Ann Rowle Wyles, daughter of John and Susannah Wyles – died March 11th, 1827 in the 20th year of her life.  

Grave Number 417/1,2&3 – In memory of Thomas - son of William and Elizabeth Wyles – died Sept 2nd (unreadable). 

Grave Number 418/1 In memory of Sarah Ann daughter of William and Elizabeth Wyles who died September 6th, 1829 aged 2 years.  418/2 Betsy daughter of the above who died... (unreadable). Burial records state the date as being 30th of September, 1831 aged. 

Grave Number 419 – In memory of John Thomas Wyles – son – of William and Elizabeth Wyles (dates unreadable). 

Grave Number 420 (unreadable). 

Grave Number 421 – In memory of (unreadable) relict of Thomas Wyles (unreadable). 

Grave Number 641 – in affectionate memory of Kezia, relict of Thomas Wyles, who died August 8th, 1880 aged 82 years old. Inscription reads  

‘Suffered much but murmured not.  
We watched her day by day.  
Our loving hearts forget her not,  
although she passed away,’ 

Grave Number 642 – In loving memory of Thomas Wyles who died August 27th, 1826 aged 32 years. Also, Sarah Ann Royce, daughter of the above, who died November 15th, 1900, aged 78 years.  
‘May they rest in peace.’ 

Grave Number 643 – Sacred in the memory of William Wyles, late baker of this parish upwards of 40 years, who departed life...(unreadable). 

Grave Number 644 – Sacred to the memory of Catherine, ye wife of William Wyles who departed this life on December 13th, 1796, aged 58 years.  

Grave Number 645 – Sacred to the memory of Mary – the wife of James Wyles, who died April...(unreadable), 182(?) age (?). 

​Grave Number 646 – Sacred in the memory of Henry Wyles who departed this life on April 9th, 1852 aged 18 years old. Also, of Charlotte Wyles – daughter of the above – who died in infancy.
We visited the graveyard today (27th July 2025), and found many of the stones difficult to read due to weathering and foliage growth. However, we have marked out and numbered the graves to correspond with the details above.
The original pictures (above) were taken c. 2009, and it is concerning how quickly the engraved text has deteriorated. Due to the good work of the Parish Priest and staff - the details of those who occupy the graves has been clearly recorded.
