King’s Cliffe War Memorials – St James & All Saints Church

Picture
There are a number of “Rolls of Honour” recording those men of King’s Cliffe who died during WWI (1914-1918), WWII (1939-1945), and the UK-involved (US-led) invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan (fought initially between 2001-2003). Four King’s Cliffe men were added in 2003 – but I have a vague memory that “F Wyles” was recorded as being killed in Afghanistan when I first visited this Church in 2009. Visiting today (27.7.2025) – there is no mention of these conflicts by name. There are five wooden plaques in total (with all names clearly engraved) situated in a neat cluster on the North interior wall of St James and All Saints Church of King’s Cliffe – immediately opposite the South Entrance:

We visited the King's Cliffe Heritage Centre on 27th July 2025 (Sunday) - and we purchased a copy of the below book, which features John William Wyles (1897-1971) of Duddington, who migrated to King's Cliffe where he was living when he joined the British Army for service during WWI.
