Market Deeping “Wyles” Burials (1827-1886)
An individual contacted this website regarding the history of “Wyles” family in Market Deeping. Market Deeping is around 13-miles North-East of Duddington. Until this enquiry – and despite visiting and exploring the Duddington area extensively since 2009 – I had never heard of Market Deeping. It is a place we shall visit when next in the Duddington area carrying-out genealogical field research. I contacted the staff of St Guthlac’s Church – who were very kind and helpful. The Church Warden provided me with the above two-pages of the Church’s burial records from the 1800s. I was researching John and Ann Wyles whose name appears on a stain-glass window situated in the Church. As can be observed – there are many other surnames included on this list – which might be of assistance to other local historians researching different surname lineages. All information is valuable. Technically speaking, this list only contains two “Wyles” family groups – the earliest dated to 1861 and the latest to 1879:
Group I
Mary (Wife of Thomas Wyles) Aged 21 or 24 – and – John Robert (1861)
Mary passed away at the relatively young age of “21” or “24” years (born in either “1840” or “1837”) – and we assume that “John Robert” was a Son (Mary may have died during child-birth – together with her child).
Group II
John Alfred Wyles 10.3.1879 (aged 69)
Ann Wyles 1.8.1866 (aged 49)
The names of John and Ann Wyles appear on a stain-glass window situated within St Guthlac’s Church.
